About Chandigarh:
Chandigarh is located in 250 km north of Delhi, the capital of India. You can reach Chandigarh by Train, Road or Flight. Important flights and trains from Delhi are given in subsequent pages.
Set in the shadow of the shivalik foothills, Chandigarh city rests on a gently sloping plateau. Plans for city were initially made by Albert Mayer and Mathew Nowicki, but the tragic death of the latter brought to the fray, Le Corbusier, Maxwell Fry, Jane Drew and Pierre Jenneret. Together they created a stunning example of modern town planning.
The city is famous for some notable buildings and locales that have been developed in a unique manner. The Rock Garden originally fashioned from waste material, is an internationally recognised port of call. The Rose Garden, Asia’s largest, in full bloom is a sight to behold. The city is bordered by two predominantly seasonal waterways. One has been dammed to produce a large lake, the Sukhana Lake.
Theme of CME:
During the past three decades Pediatric Dermatology has emerged as a speciality in its own right. Prior to that, interest in skin diseases of children was limited, except on the part of a few, mostly academic physicians. Books on the subject were scarce and research in the field was in its infancy.
Dermatological problems constitute at least 30% of all outpatient visits to a pediatrician and 30% of all visits to a dermatologist involve children. The prevalence of skin diseases amongst children in various parts of India has ranged from 8. 7% to 35% in school-based surveys. Pediatric Dermatology is now recognized as a separate speciality in most countries and societies devoted to this field are now established in Europe, the United State, UK, South America and Asia.
In recent years, however, there has been a virtual explosion of medical knowledge resulting from efforts to understand the mechanisms of children’s skin diseases and to discover safe, and effective modes of treatment. As the interest in pediatric dermatology has increased exponentially so has the need for an ideal Pediatric Dermatology Unit and a standard training in this sub-speciality. Keeping these facts in mind, organizers have selected “Pediatric Dermatology- Evolving trends” as a theme for this CME.
